“Network Rail’s latest Station upgrade rolls along at East Croydon”
Paneltec worked with Bam Nuttall on Network Rail's latest major rail hub upgrade - East Croydon is one of the busines rail hubs, serving hundreds of thousands of commuters every day, along some of the network's businest lines. Paneltec delivered bespoke architectural finishes at East Croydon station, including vitreous enamel lift shaft cladding, stainless steel staircase coverings, aluminium ceilinga nd wall features along with standing seam roofing and structural building elements. The £650,000 package involved working closely with Bam Nuttall’s engineers and installing support systems to a large steel concourse structure, off site, adjacent to the station platforms. Staircase structures were also worked off site before being craned into position on the platforms. Working in this rail environment presented many challenges for the Paneltec team to overcome on a daily and nightly basis – but with our significant experience of major transport projects, Paneltec’s team have been able to produce the usual high quality of decorative treatments that, in turn, have transformed this important London railway centre and one of which the residents of Croydon can be proud.
This video link provides a unique insight into how delicate and difficult tasks were carried out. This particular task was to position an enormous structure across live rail tracks with very minimal time to execute the works before normal train services resumed.
